Jersey City to host a new cultural beacon: a theater dedicated to the New Jersey Symphony

Jersey City, New Jersey — The New Jersey Symphony, which has performed at venues across the state in the past, is poised to establish a permanent home. In 2026, the symphony will open Symphony Center, a modern, 550-seat theater located in the heart of downtown Jersey City. The announcement was made jointly by the city and the symphony’s board of directors.

The Symphony Center is poised to become a central venue for a variety of cultural events, including concerts and educational programs. This new venue aims to increase the visibility of the symphony and attract many visitors to the city each year.

Gabriel van Aalst, President and CEO of the New Jersey Symphony, expressed his excitement about the new development. “For years, we have performed in venues owned by others. This new theater is not just a physical space for us; it is an opportunity to reshape our approach, discover new opportunities, and prepare for a sustainable future,” he said.

The Symphony Center will not only be the orchestra’s primary performance space, but will also host other cultural and community events, strengthening its role as a cultural hub for Jersey City.
